🌲 1. Meadows — The Starting Biome
The Meadows is your spawn biome. Lush green hills, gentle streams, and relatively peaceful wildlife. Meadows is safe enough to learn the basics — hunting, gathering, building — but don't get cocky: Boars and Graydwarves (at night) can kill an unprepared player.
Terrain & Hazards
| Hazard | Description | How to Handle |
|---|---|---|
| Boars | Aggressive when provoked — charge attack | Hunt with bow from range; parry with a shield |
| Graydwarf (night) | Spawns at night only — moderate damage | Stay inside at night or build a campfire ring |
| Necks | Small lizard-like creatures near water | Easy kill with any weapon; drops Neck Tail for cooking |
| Bees | If you destroy a bee hive, they swarm | Don't destroy hives until you have a beehive ready |
Resources
| Resource | Use | How to Find |
|---|---|---|
| Wood | Everything — tools, buildings, fire | Chop any tree |
| Stone | Axes, hammer, basic building | Ground pickups or Boulder deposits |
| Flint | Knives, arrows, sharpening | Riverbanks — look for shiny grey rocks |
| Deer Hide | Leather armor, upgrades | Hunt deer with bow |
| Leather Scraps | Workbench upgrades, tools | Kill boars |
| Raspberry / Mushroom | Early food — 20 HP / 20 Stamina | Bushes / ground pickups |
| Honey | Cooking, mead base | Inside abandoned structures (bee hives) |
| Core Wood (edge) | Better building poles | Fallen trees near Black Forest border |
Recommended Gear
| Slot | Item | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Crude Bow + Flint Axe | Range for deer, melee for boars |
| Shield | Wood Shield | Basic blocking |
| Armor | Leather Tunic (or rags) | Minimal — just avoid hits |
| Food | Cooked Meat + Raspberry + Mushroom | Balanced HP/stamina for learning |
Base Building Tips
- First base: Build near water (coastline) with access to the Black Forest border.
- Location: Open meadows, away from Black Forest (graydwarves wander in).
- Defense: A simple stake wall is enough. Moats are overkill here.
- Portal hub: Meadows is the ideal location for your main portal hub — central, safe, easy access.
Boss Association
Eikthyr — summoned with 2 Deer Trophy + 1 Greydwarf Eye at his stone altar. See the Boss Strategies guide for the fight.
🌳 2. Black Forest — The Copper Age
Dense, dark forests with a greenish hue. The Black Forest is your first real challenge — aggressive enemies roam day and night, and the terrain is hilly with deep ravines. This is where you transition from survival to industry.
⚠️ Critical Tip: Never travel the Black Forest at night without a rested bonus and good gear. Night spawns double the enemy count.
Terrain & Hazards
| Hazard | Description | How to Handle |
|---|---|---|
| Graydwarf | Standard enemy — moderate damage | Block, counter, 3–4 hits |
| Graydwarf Brute | Large variant — heavy slam attack | Parry timing is critical; roll away if unsure |
| Graydwarf Shaman | Ranged poison attack — spawns poison clouds | Kill first; poison resist helps |
| Troll | Giant blue humanoid — massive damage | Do not melee early on. Use bow + fire arrows + kite |
| Burial Chambers | Dark dungeons with skeletons and respawning enemies | Bring a torch + stagbreaker (AOE through walls) |
| Rocky terrain | Steep hills, ravines — easy to fall | Use pickaxe to terrace paths |
Resources
| Resource | Use | How to Find |
|---|---|---|
| Copper Ore | Bronze (with Tin) | Dark brown seam deposits — visible on map as brown patches |
| Tin Ore | Bronze (with Copper) | Near water — riverbanks and coastal cliffs |
| Surtling Core | Portal, smelter, charcoal kiln | Burial Chambers — yellow glowing orbs; also found in Fire Geysers |
| Finewood | Finewood Bow, furniture | Birch and Oak trees — need a bronze axe to chop |
| Core Wood | Better building poles (tall structures) | Pine trees — chop with flint axe or better |
| Ancient Seed | Summon The Elder | Burial Chambers — yellow orbs |
| Resin | Fire arrows, torches | All Black Forest enemies drop some |
| Blueberries | Queen's Jam, meads | Bushes — harvest with any tool |
| Troll Hide | Troll armor (light, sneaky) | Kill Trolls — ~50% drop rate |
Recommended Gear
| Slot | Item | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Finewood Bow + Fire Arrows | Kite trolls, clear graydwarves safely |
| Melee | Bronze Sword or Mace | Brutes and shamans need melee |
| Shield | Bronze Buckler | Parry window is generous; can parry brutes |
| Armor | Troll Hide (light) or Bronze (heavy) | Troll hide for mobility + sneak; bronze for face-tanking |
| Food | Cooked Meat + Deer Stew + Queen's Jam | Solid HP + stamina pool |
| Mead | Minor Healing (3+) | Emergency burst heal |
Base Building Tips
- Location: Build near the coast with both copper and tin access.
- Multiple bases: A mining outpost in the Black Forest with a portal and smelter reduces travel time.
- Defense: Trolls can destroy wooden walls. Dig a moat or raise earth walls.
- Portal: Always place a portal at your Black Forest base. You will die here.
- Smelter location: Build the smelter at your main base (Meadows), not in the Black Forest — moving bronze bars is safer than defending a smelter in hostile territory.
Boss Association
The Elder — summoned with 3 Ancient Seeds at his stone platform. Weak to fire. See the Boss Strategies guide.
💀 3. Swamp — The Iron Grind
The Swamp is a miserable, rain-soaked hellscape. Poison, leeches, and constantly wet debuff make this the game's first real wall. The water is deep and murky, visibility is poor, and the enemy density is oppressive.
⚠️ Mandatory Prep — Do not enter the Swamp without Poison Resist Mead, a blunt weapon, and a hoe (to raise ground paths).
Terrain & Hazards
| Hazard | Description | How to Handle |
|---|---|---|
| Poison clouds (gasp) | Green mist patches — deal poison damage every tick | Avoid or pop poison resist; detect life with Wishbone later |
| Draugr | Armed undead — bow, sword, or spear variants | Parry + blunt weapon; Draugr Elite (starred) is dangerous |
| Blob / Oozer | Poison AOE on death — explodes into poison cloud | Kill at range or back away after killing |
| Skeleton | Basic undead — weak but numerous | Blunt weapon one-shots them |
| Leech | Water-dweller — poison bite | Bow from land; don't wade in |
| Abomination | Giant tree creature — very high HP, resistant to pierce | Axe or fire arrows; kite around indestructible trees |
| Wet debuff | Permanent rain in Swamp — reduces stamina regen by 15% | Always have Rested buff active before exploring |
| Deep water | Slow movement, leeches, drowning risk | Raise ground with hoe to create safe paths |
Resources
| Resource | Use | How to Find |
|---|---|---|
| Iron Scraps | Iron bars (smelted at blast furnace) | Sunken Crypts — muddy scrap piles inside (center of rooms) |
| Ancient Bark | Bonemass summon, Draugr Fang bow | Ancient tree pickups (they fall when you chop nearby trees) |
| Bloodbag | Medium Health Mead, Blood Pudding | Leeches drop them |
| Entrails | Sausages (best swamp food) | Draugr and Draugr Elites |
| Ooze | Poison arrows, Ooze bombs | Blobs and Oozers |
| Core Wood | Building | Chop fallen trees |
| Withered Bone | Summon Bonemass (10 needed) | Skeletons in Sunken Crypts |
| Chanterelle | Cooking ingredient | Glowing blue mushroom — ground pickup |
| Turnip | Turnip Stew (unlocked after boss) | Found in Swamp — yellow flowering plant (rare) — mark location! |
| Guck | Poison arrows, building materials | Under water — glowing green deposits (drain water or dive) |
Recommended Gear
| Slot | Item | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Iron Mace (blunt) | Bonemass is immune to pierce; Draugr shred with blunt |
| Backup | Huntsman Bow | For Abominations and emergency ranged pulls |
| Shield | Iron Buckler or Banded Shield | High block armor for parrying Draugr Elites |
| Armor | Root Chest (pierce resist) + Iron Legs/Helm | Root chest blocks Draugr arrows; iron for overall protection |
| Food | Sausages + Turnip Stew + Queen's Jam | ~220 HP / 160 Stamina — minimum for survival |
| Mead | Poison Resist (always active), Minor/Medium Health, Stamina | Poison resist lasts 10 min — reapply before exploring crypts |
| Tool | Hoe | Raise paths out of deep water — this is non-negotiable |
Sunken Crypt Farming — Best Strategy
- Find a crypt — look for stone archway structures in the Swamp.
- Enter with a stagbreaker — you can smash Muddy Scrap Piles through walls by hitting the ground beside them.
- Use the Hoe — inside crypts, raise ground to drain water for easier movement.
- Per-crypt yield — 40–120 Iron Scraps depending on room count.
- Portals: Place a portal on top of the crypt (build a ladder on the outside — the crypt is indestructible).
- Target: 160 Iron Scraps minimum before leaving the Swamp biome.
Base Building Tips
- Do not build in the Swamp for permanent bases. Use tree houses on the indestructible ancient trees.
- Portal platform: Build a 3x3 platform in an ancient tree. Place portal + workbench + chest.
- Main base: Return to Meadows or Black Forest for permanent structures.
Boss Association
Bonemass — summoned with 10 Withered Bone at his skull altar. Weak to blunt. See the Boss Strategies guide.
🏔️ 4. Mountains — The Silver Frontier
Snow-capped peaks with howling winds and sub-zero temperatures. The Mountains biome is cold — without frost resist, you take damage every 5 seconds and eventually freeze to death. Wolves hunt in packs, Drakes patrol the sky, and the terrain is treacherous.
⚠️ Mandatory: Frost Resist Mead OR Wolf Fur Chest before your first expedition. Frost resist lasts 10 minutes — carry 3+ doses.
Terrain & Hazards
| Hazard | Description | How to Handle |
|---|---|---|
| Freezing temperature | Deals damage without frost protection | Wolf Fur Cape or Frost Resist Mead |
| Wolf | Fast, packs of 2–5 — high damage | Parry + silver weapon (bonus spirit damage vs undead) |
| Wolf (starred) | 1-star: 4x HP; 2-star: 10x HP — extremely dangerous | Avoid if possible; bow from range; parry + 5–6 hits |
| Drake | Ranged frost attack from above | Bow — they flee after taking ~50 damage |
| Stone Golem | Very high HP, resistant to pierce and blunt | Pickaxe does bonus damage; or use an iron pick |
| Frost Caves | Underground caves with Cultists and Ulvs | Bring a torch; Cultists drop Fenris Hair (light armor crafting) |
| Falling | Cliff edges, ravines — instant death | Build pathways with hoe; carry 10 wood for emergency stairs |
| Blizzard | Random weather event — zero visibility | Find shelter (cave or build a small hut) and wait it out |
Resources
| Resource | Use | How to Find |
|---|---|---|
| Silver Ore | Silver weapons, armor, Frostner | Silver veins are underground — use the Wishbone (from Bonemass) to find them |
| Obsidian | Obsidian arrows (high damage) | Black rock deposits on mountain surfaces |
| Wolf Pelt | Wolf armor, Wolf Fur Cape | Wolves drop pelts |
| Wolf Fang | Wolf Skewer (great food) | Wolves drop |
| Drake Trophy | Decoration, but also the Moder spawn item requirement | Shoot down Drakes |
| Dragon Tear | Artisan Table (unlocked after Moder) | From Moder's altar — pickup after killing her |
| Onion Seeds | Onion soup — best stamina food for mountains | Found in Mountain chests (rare) |
| Fenris Hair | Fenris armor set (light, fast) | Cultists in Frost Caves |
| Cultist Trophy | Fenris armor upgrade | Cultists drop — farm in Frost Caves |
| Crystal | Crystal battleaxe, windows | Golems and Frost Cave deposits |
Recommended Gear
| Slot | Item | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Draugr Fang (bow) + Frostner (mace) | Draugr Fang's poison ticks are excellent against high-HP golems; Frostner slows wolves |
| Backup | Silver Sword | Spirit damage bonus vs undead (bonus damage vs skeletons, draugr) |
| Shield | Silver Shield | High block armor — parry wolf packs |
| Armor | Wolf Fur Chest + Padded Legs + Silver Helm | Frost resist from chest; heavy armor everywhere else |
| Food | Wolf Skewer + Lox Pie + Blood Pudding | ~255 HP / 260 Stamina |
| Mead | Frost Resist (mandatory), Major Health, Stamina | Frost resist refreshes every 10 minutes |
| Tool | Wishbone (from Bonemass) | Absolutely required to find silver — it pulses faster when near silver ore |
Silver Mining — Wishbone Mechanics
- Equip the Wishbone in your utility slot.
- Walk across the mountain — when the wishbone pulses faster and beeps, you're near silver.
- Dig down with the iron pickaxe. Silver veins are large chunks ~1020 units per node.
- Mark the location on your map for portal placement.
- Yield: Each silver node gives ~90–140 silver ore. You need ~63 for full set + weapon.
Base Building Tips
- Mountain outpost: Build a small stone hut near the Moder altar. Use a portal for resupply.
- Avoid open peaks: Wolves can climb. Build on a sheltered ledge.
- Bonfires: Multiple bonfires in your mountain base provide warmth (helps counteract freezing).
- Pathways: Use a hoe + pickaxe to flatten paths between POIs.
Boss Association
Moder — summoned with 3 Dragon Tear at a stone altar on the highest peak. Weak to pierce/poison. See the Boss Strategies guide.
🌾 5. Plains — The Black Metal Frontier
Golden, open plains under a warm sun — don't let the beauty fool you. The Plains are merciless. Deathsquitos can one-shot you without pierce resistance, Fuling patrols are aggressive, and Lox will trample your base.
⚠️ Deathsquito warning: 75 pierce damage per hit. Root Chest gives pierce resist = 75% damage reduction. Wear it.
Terrain & Hazards
| Hazard | Description | How to Handle |
|---|---|---|
| Deathsquito | Fly — 75 pierce damage (can one-shot through light armor) | Block with shield or wear Root Chest; they die in 1 hit |
| Fuling | Green goblin — standard melee and spear variants | Parry + counter; respect starred varieties |
| Fuling Berserker | Large Fuling — spinning club attack (devastating) | Roll away from spin; punish the pause after |
| Fuling Shaman | Ranged fireball + heal — heals nearby fulings | Kill first; bow from max range |
| Lox | Giant furry beast — AOE ground slam, trample | Bow from range (30+ arrows); Lox can destroy stone |
| Growth | Slime-like puddle — persistent poison AOE | Stay out of the green cloud; kill with blunt from range |
| Tar Pits | Sticky tar + Growth spawns | Approach carefully; bring fire arrows |
| Mosquito swarms (night) | Group deathsquito attacks at night | Stay indoors or near campfires at night |
Resources
| Resource | Use | How to Find |
|---|---|---|
| Black Metal Scrap | Blackmetal weapons, tools | Fulings drop — need Blast Furnace to smelt |
| Flax | Linen thread (padded armor, blackmetal) | Fuling villages — harvest in fields |
| Barley | Bread, Lox Pie, Blood Pudding | Fuling villages — harvest in fields |
| Cloudberry | Stamina meads, food | Plains bushes — glowing orange |
| Needle | Needle arrows, Porcupine (mace) | Deathsquitos drop needles |
| Lox Meat | Lox Pie — best Plains food | Hunt Lox |
| Lox Trophy | Decoration | ~15% drop from Lox |
| Fuling Totem | Summon Yagluth | Fuling Berserkers and Shamans |
| Tar | Darkwood building materials | Tar pits (dangerous — clear Growth first) |
Recommended Gear
| Slot | Item | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Blackmetal Sword or Porcupine | High base damage; Porcupine has bonus pierce (great vs fulings) |
| Bow | Draugr Fang (still top-tier) | Poison arrows for Lox hunting |
| Shield | Blackmetal Shield | High block armor for Berserker parries |
| Armor | Root Chest (pierce resist) + Padded Legs/Helm | Root chest is non-negotiable for deathsquito survival |
| Food | Lox Pie + Bread + Blood Pudding | ~210 HP / 265 Stamina |
| Mead | Major Health, Stamina, Fire Resist (optional) | Fire resist helps against Shaman fireballs |
Plains Village Raiding
- Scout first — approach from a hill and count fulings, berserkers, shamans.
- Mark the village — place a portal 200m away before attacking.
- Snipe shamans — kill shamans first (bow from 50m). They prevent the revive mechanic.
- Berserkers last — kill berserkers by parrying their 3-hit combo, then landing 4–5 hits.
- Harvest — flax and barley are in the fields. Harvest everything. Bring them to safety immediately.
- Per village: average 20–40 Black Metal Scrap, 30–50 Flax, 20–30 Barley.
Base Building Tips
- Main base: Don't build in the Plains unless you have stone walls and a deep moat.
- Lox proofing: Lox can destroy stone walls in 3 charges. A 4m wide moat stops them.
- Fuling raids: After killing Yagluth, fuling raids can happen anywhere. Your Plains outpost needs defenses.
- Breeding ground: Plains is excellent for Lox breeding (open space) once it's walled off.
Boss Association
Yagluth — summoned with 5 Fuling Totem at a giant stone hand altar. See the Boss Strategies guide.
🌫️ 6. Mistlands — The Magic Frontier
The Mistlands are Valheim's most visually oppressive biome — a thick, magical fog reduces visibility to 10 meters. The terrain is vertical: soaring rock spires connected by invisible bridges. Without the Wisplight, you're blind.
⚠️ Mandatory gear: Wisplight (crafted from a Wisp + Yggdrasil Wood at the Artisan Table). Without it, you can't see more than 5 meters and will fall off cliffs constantly.
Terrain & Hazards
| Hazard | Description | How to Handle |
|---|---|---|
| Thick Mist | Reduces visibility to 8–10m | Wisplight extends vision to 20m; Wisp Torches reveal more |
| Vertical terrain | Spires, cliffs, invisible bridges | Feather Cape (no fall damage) is a game changer here |
| Seeker | Giant insect — fast, armored, high damage | Carapace arrows from range; Mistwalker's spirit damage bypasses armor |
| Seeker Soldier | Armored variant — can only be damaged from behind or with pickaxe | Roll past, hit the unarmored rear |
| Tick | Small parasite — latches on, drains HP | Roll to shake off; kill before it attaches |
| Dvergr | Neutral dwarves — hostile if you steal from them | Don't anger them; their base is a safe zone and can be used for shelter |
| Dvergr Rogue | Fast, dual-dagger attacks | High DPS — block or parry |
| Dvergr Mage | Magic attacks — AOE frost/lightning | Interrupt with bow; kill fast |
| Giant | Passive giant NPCs — unkillable | Leave them alone; they can crush enemies if led to them |
| Mistlands rain | Magic rain — reduces stamina regen by 30% | Rested buff is even more critical here |
Resources
| Resource | Use | How to Find |
|---|---|---|
| Black Marble | High-tier building material | Giant skulls and structures — mine with pickaxe |
| Soft Tissue | Carapace armor, Mistwalker | Seekers and Seeker Soldiers drop |
| Carapace | Carapace armor, carapace arrows, construction | Seekers drop |
| Yggdrasil Wood | Mistlands-tier wood, Wisplight, portals | Yggdrasil roots and branches — purple glowing wood |
| Jotun Puff | Misthare Supreme food | Glowing blue mushroom — grows near water in Mistlands |
| Magecap | Magic staff crafting | Glowing purple mushroom — found near Yggdrasil roots |
| Royal Jelly | Honey Glazed Chicken, healing meads | Dvergr crates (breakable) and Giant nests |
| Seal Fragment | Summon The Queen | Infested Mines and Dvergr towers |
| Wisp | Wisplight, Wisp Torches | Wisp fountains — glowing blue lights in the mist |
| Refined Eitr | Magic weapons and gear | Processed from Soft Tissue at the Eitr Refinery |
| Scale Hide | Carapace armor | Dropped by Seeker Soldiers |
Recommended Gear
| Slot | Item | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Mistwalker (sword) | Spirit damage bypasses carapace armor |
| Magic Build | Staff of Embers / Staff of Frost | Elemental damage is very effective against Seekers |
| Ranged | Arbalest (crossbow) + Carapace Bolts | 150+ damage per hit from range |
| Shield | Carapace Shield | Highest block armor available pre-Ashlands |
| Armor | Carapace Armor + Feather Cape | Feather Cape eliminates fall damage (critical for Mistlands) |
| Food | Misthare Supreme + Honey Glazed Chicken + Bread | ~300 HP / 275 Stamina |
| Mead | Major Healing (5+), Stamina (5+), Fire Resist (3+) | Fire resist helps with Seekers' fire-adjacent attacks |
| Utility | Wisplight (mandatory) | Without it, you're blind and dead |
| Magic | Eitr Weave Set (optional) | For magic builds — faster Eitr regen |
Navigation Tips
- Feather Cape makes Mistlands infinitely easier — no fall damage means you can jump off cliffs freely.
- Wisp Torches — place them along your path to create safe zones with full visibility.
- Invisible bridges — the rock spires are connected by walkways. Look for the slightly different-colored terrain texture.
- Dvergr outposts — safe zones. Build a portal inside an unoccupied Dvergr tower.
- Veteran tip: Build a road system using the hoe's "level ground" function. Flat paths between POIs save hours of vertical climbing.
Base Building Tips
- Mistlands base — find a relatively flat area near water (rare but exists). Build with Black Marble walls.
- Portal network — Mistlands is huge and vertical. Place a portal on every major spire.
- Safe rooms — build small stone huts every 500m with a campfire (rested buff) and a portal.
Boss Association
The Queen — summoned with 9 Seal Fragment at an Infested Citadel. See the Boss Strategies guide.
🔥 7. Ashlands — The Endgame
Volcanic wasteland at the southern edge of the world. Lava flows, ash storms, and the game's toughest enemies. Ashlands is the final biome (as of v0.219.14) and demands max-tier gear, all available meads, and absolute focus.
⚠️ Mandatory: Fire Resist Mead + full set of Ashlands-tier gear. The ground itself deals fire damage without fire protection. You have been warned.
Terrain & Hazards
| Hazard | Description | How to Handle |
|---|---|---|
| Lava flows | Rivers of lava — instant death on contact | Build bridges with stone/marble; use hoe to raise paths |
| Ash storms | Reduces visibility, deals fire damage over time | Take shelter; Fire Resist Mead helps |
| Charred Warrior | Swordsman — fast, aggressive | Parry + 3-hit combo; watch for spin attack |
| Charred Archer | Ranged — fire arrows | Shield block; close distance fast |
| Charred Mage | AOE fireballs — devastating at range | Bow snipe from 50m+; interrupt casts |
| Charred Warlord | Boss-level enemy with shield and AOE slam | Treat like a mini-boss; parry carefully; backstab if possible |
| Fallen Valkyrie | Flying — dive-bomb attack | Bow while dodging — 10–12 carapace bolts |
| Surtling (Ashlands) | Lava-dwelling fire spirit | Kill from range; drops Charcoal Cores |
| Lava blobs | Stationary — explode when you approach | Don't approach; destroy with arrows from safe distance |
Resources
| Resource | Use | How to Find |
|---|---|---|
| Flame Metal | Ashlands-tier weapons, armor, tools | Charred enemies drop; smelted at Blast Furnace |
| Charcoal Core | Ashlands portals, fuel | Surtlings and Charred Mages drop |
| Ashwood | Fire-resistant building material | Charred structures — chop with any axe |
| Dyrnwyn Fragment | Summon Fader | Fortress at Ashlands center |
| Boar Jerky (Ashlands) | Ashlands food recipes | Ashlands Boar drops |
| Spicy Bread | Ashlands food (stamina) | Crafted from Ashlands Barley |
| Fish Wrap | Ashlands food (balanced) | Ashlands fish + bread |
| Lava Stone | Building material (lava-resistant) | Mined from lava-adjacent deposits |
Recommended Gear
| Slot | Item | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Flame Metal Sword or Demolisher (2h hammer) | Highest base damage; fire damage bonus with Fader power |
| Ranged | Spinesnap (Ashlands crossbow) + Carapace Bolts | 180+ damage per hit |
| Shield | Ashlands Shield (Flame Metal) | Highest block armor in the game |
| Armor | Ashlands Carapace Set | Fire resist passive — reduces Ashlands terrain damage |
| Food | Boar Jerky + Spicy Bread + Fish Wrap | ~320 HP / 300 Stamina |
| Mead | Fire Resist (mandatory), Major Healing (10+), Stamina (5+) | Fire resist is permanently required in Ashlands |
| Utility | Bonemass Power (for Fader) | +75% resist to all physical damage — life saver |
Fortress Raid Strategy
- Scout — find the central Fortress (marked on map after finding Dyrnwyn clue).
- Perimeter clean — clear all Charred enemies within 200m.
- Entrance — destroy the front gate with a pickaxe or Demolisher.
- Room-by-room — Ashlands Fortresses are multi-room dungeons. Clear each room before advancing.
- Loot room — the Dyrnwyn Fragment is in the central chamber, guarded by a Warlord.
- Portal room — build a portal inside the Fortress after clearing it.
Base Building Tips
- Permanent base: Ashlands is not for permanent bases. Build a fortified outpost with Black Marble + Ashwood walls.
- Fire-proofing: Everything must be stone or black marble. Wood burns instantly here.
- Portal bunker: Build a fully enclosed marble room for your portal. The room needs a roof — flying enemies attack portals.
- Bonfires: They help with cold in Mountains. In Ashlands, they add to the heat damage — don't place them.
Boss Association
Fader — summoned with 1 Dyrnwyn Fragment + 3 Flame Metal at a peak altar. See the Boss Strategies guide.
