Enshrouded Map & Exploration Guide

The world of Embervale spans six distinct biomes, from the gentle Springlands to the deadly Underworld. Each zone offers unique resources, enemies, and secrets. Understanding the map — and how to navigate it efficiently — is the key to progression.

Tip: Don't rush to higher biomes too early. Enemies in Revelwood will two-shot you if you're still level 6. The game's level scaling is strict.

The Shroud

The Shroud is a magical fog that covers parts of Embervale. Standing in it without protection deals rapid damage.

Shroud Mechanics

Stat Value
Damage per second (outside shroud) 8 HP/s
Damage per second (deep shroud) 20 HP/s
Maximum time in shroud (base) 5 minutes
Maximum time (with Shroud Weaver potion) 15 minutes
Shroud Core duration boost +2 minutes each

Shroud Survival

Item Effect How to Get
Shroud Survival Flask Base 5 min timer Crafted at Alchemist (5 Shroud Cores)
Shroud Weaver Potion +10 min timer Alchemist (10 Shroud Cores + 3 Red Flowers)
Shroud Walker Boots Immunity in shroud Underworld boss drop
Elixir Well buff +10 min timer (regional) Activate Elixir Well

Warning: If your shroud timer reaches zero, you take 50 HP/s damage. This kills you in seconds. Always carry a backup flask.

Shroud Cores

Shroud Cores are the most important resource in the game. They're used for: - Upgrading your Flame Altar (levels 2–5) - Crafting shroud survival items - Crafting mid-to-late game weapons and armor - Activating Ancient Spires

How to farm Shroud Cores: 1. Defeat shroud enemies — Fell Spitters, Shroud Stalkers, Corrupted Knights 2. Loot Elixir Well chests (guaranteed 5–8 cores each) 3. Break glowing orange shroud nodes in Shroud zones 4. Complete Vault runs (10–15 cores per run)

Ancient Spires (Fast Travel)

There are 15 Ancient Spires across Embervale. Each must be climbed once to activate it as a fast travel point.

Spire Locations by Biome

Biome Number of Spires Notable Spire
Springlands 3 Central Spire (starter, easiest climb)
Revelwood 3 Revelwood Spire (requires double jump)
Nomad Highlands 3 Highlands Spire (wind puzzles)
Kindlewastes 2 Desert Spire (heat resistance climb)
Albaneve Summits 2 Summit Spire (cold resistance climb)
The Underworld 2 Underworld Spire (shroud timer climb)

Climbing Tips

  1. Check your stamina — Each Spire climb requires 15+ blocks of stamina for grapple points. Bring stamina food.
  2. Find the grapple points — Each Spire has glowing orange grapple hooks at intervals. Miss one and you'll need to backtrack.
  3. Break the crystal at the top — The Spire crystal must be struck to activate it. This also heals you and removes all status effects.
  4. Spires are level-gated — A Level 25 Spire has Level 25 enemies. Don't attempt Summit Spire at Level 12.
  5. Use the map — Unactivated Spires show as gray icons on the map. Fast travel between activated Spires is free.

Elixir Wells

Elixir Wells are points of interest that provide regional shroud protection buffs.

Elixir Well Mechanics

Each Elixir Well can be activated once per character. Activation: 1. Requires 20 Shroud Cores as fuel 2. Grants +10 minutes of shroud time in that region 3. Unlocks a fast travel point at the well 4. Spawns a chest with rare loot (guaranteed Hollow Core, random weapon blueprint)

Exploration Tips & Tricks

  1. Mark your map — Use custom map markers for unopened chests, secret entrances, and boss locations. You can place up to 50 markers.
  2. Always grapple — The grappling hook isn't just for Spires. Use it to reach high ledges, cross chasms, and escape combat.
  3. Double jump skill — This is the single most useful exploration skill. Unlock it at level 5.
  4. Glide everywhere — The glider lets you cross enormous distances. Glide from Spire tops to reach otherwise inaccessible areas.
  5. Look for orange glows — Hidden chests, Shroud Cores, and collectibles all emit a faint orange glow that's visible from 50m away.
  6. Night exploration is dangerous — Enemy spawn rates double at night, and new enemy types (Banshees, Wraiths) only appear after dark.
  7. Sound cues — Unique audio cues play near secrets. A faint humming means a hidden chest is nearby. A bell sound means a skill point tome.
  8. Verticality matters — Embervale is a vertical world. Always look up — many secrets are on rooftops, cliff edges, and floating platforms.
  9. Horse is faster than glider on flat ground — Tame a horse in Revelwood for ground travel. Use glider in mountains.
  10. The Underworld has no map — Once you enter the Underworld, your map stops working. Bring a torch and remember landmarks.
