Melee Weapons

Melee is your primary damage source in the early game and remains a viable backup throughout. Different weapons excel at different tasks — blunt weapons stagger zombies and dismember, while blades inflict bleeding and harvest more animal parts.

Weapon Damage Stamina/Swing Durability Tier Crafting Materials
Stone Spear 12 8 60 Stone 10 Wood, 7 Stone, 5 Plant Fiber
Stone Axe 10 10 80 Stone 10 Wood, 5 Stone, 3 Plant Fiber
Iron Spear 22 12 150 Iron 20 Forged Iron, 10 Wood, 5 Leather
Iron Knuckles 18 6 120 Iron 15 Forged Iron, 5 Duct Tape, 3 Leather
Machete 32 18 200 Iron 25 Forged Iron, 10 Leather, 5 Duct Tape
Baseball Bat 20 14 100 Wood 15 Wood, 5 Nails, 3 Duct Tape
Steel Knuckles 28 8 250 Steel 20 Forged Steel, 10 Duct Tape, 5 Leather
Chain Bat 28 16 175 Composite Baseball Bat + 10 Chain Links + 5 Duct Tape
Steel Club 35 20 300 Steel 25 Forged Steel, 10 Leather, 5 Duct Tape
Sledgehammer 40 30 150 Iron 20 Forged Iron, 15 Wood, 5 Leather
Sledgehammer (Steel) 55 32 350 Steel 30 Forged Steel, 15 Wood, 10 Leather
Stun Baton 15 10 140 Iron 10 Forged Iron, 5 Duct Tape, 3 Electrical Parts
Hunting Knife 25 10 150 Iron 15 Forged Iron, 5 Leather, 3 Duct Tape
Bone Dagger 14 6 40 Bone 15 Bones, 5 Plant Fiber
M60 (Melee Stock Bash) 18 12 N/A (Weapon) Steel N/A (uses M60 LMG)

Tip: Sledgehammer has the highest single-hit damage but costs the most stamina. For clearing hordes, use a Steel Club or Chain Bat — better damage-per-stamina ratio. For harvesting animal corpses, use a Hunting Knife or Machete (maximum meat yield).

Ranged Weapons

Ranged weapons are your primary horde-clearers. From the humble Primitive Bow to the devastating M60 LMG and Rocket Launcher, each weapon fills a specific role. Always carry a backup ranged weapon and at least 200 spare rounds.

Weapon Damage Fire Rate Magazine Ammo Type Best Used For
Primitive Bow 10 1.0/s 1 Stone Arrow Day 1 hunting, stealth kills
Wooden Bow 14 1.2/s 1 Stone/Iron Arrow Early game ranged, cheap ammo
Crossbow 35 0.5/s 1 Iron/Steel Arrow Mid-game sniping, silent kills
Pipe Pistol 12 2.5/s 6 9mm Emergency backup, early ranged
Pipe Rifle 28 1.5/s 4 7.62mm Budget sniper, medium range
Pipe Shotgun 18 (x8 pellets) 0.8/s 2 Shotgun Shell Close quarters, room clearing
Pistol 18 3.0/s 15 9mm Reliable sidearm, mid-game primary
SMG-5 14 8.0/s 30 9mm Horde clearing, short-mid range
Tactical Assault Rifle 25 6.0/s 30 7.62mm All-purpose, best DPS gun
AK-47 28 4.5/s 30 7.62mm Hard-hitting, medium-long range
Sniper Rifle 85 1.0/s 5 7.62mm (AP) Long-range one-shot kills
Hunting Rifle 55 1.2/s 1 7.62mm Budget sniper, medium range
Double Barrel Shotgun 22 (x10 pellets) 0.7/s 2 Shotgun Shell Highest burst damage, close range
Auto Shotgun 20 (x9 pellets) 2.5/s 8 Shotgun Shell Horde clearing, room sweeping
M60 LMG 32 7.5/s 100 7.62mm Endgame horde annihilation
Rocket Launcher 100 (AoE) 0.3/s 1 Rocket Demolition, crowds, vehicles
Junk Turret 10/tick 3.0/s 300 (battery) Battery Automated defense, distraction

Tip: The Tactical Assault Rifle is widely considered the best all-around weapon in the game — controllable recoil, large magazine, and great damage. Pair it with AP ammo for horde night. The Crossbow is your best stealth weapon — zombies killed at range don't alert others.

Tools

Tools are your lifeline in 7 Days to Die. Better tools mean faster resource gathering, which means better bases, more ammo, and faster progression. Always upgrade your primary gathering tool to the next tier as soon as possible.

Tool Harvest Power Durability Stamina/Swing Crafting
Stone Axe 7 80 10 10 Wood, 5 Stone, 3 Plant Fiber
Iron Pickaxe 25 300 14 20 Forged Iron, 10 Wood, 5 Leather
Steel Pickaxe 40 500 18 25 Forged Steel, 10 Wood, 5 Leather
Iron Shovel 20 250 12 15 Forged Iron, 10 Wood, 5 Leather
Steel Shovel 35 450 16 20 Forged Steel, 10 Wood, 5 Leather
Iron Fireaxe 30 350 16 20 Forged Iron, 10 Wood, 5 Leather
Steel Fireaxe 50 600 20 30 Forged Steel, 10 Wood, 5 Leather
Auger 45 800 (fuel) N/A (uses gas) 40 Forged Steel, 10 Mechanical Parts, 5 Tools
Chainsaw 40 700 (fuel) N/A (uses gas) 35 Forged Steel, 10 Mechanical Parts, 5 Tools
Impact Driver 25 400 N/A (uses battery) 20 Forged Steel, 10 Mechanical Parts, 5 Electrical Parts
Nailgun 15 (repair tool) 300 (fuel) N/A (uses nails) 15 Forged Iron, 5 Mechanical Parts, 3 Duct Tape
Wrench 8 200 10 10 Forged Iron, 5 Mechanical Parts, 3 Duct Tape
Ratchet 12 350 N/A (uses battery) 15 Forged Steel, 8 Mechanical Parts, 5 Electrical Parts
Claw Hammer 5 150 8 5 Forged Iron, 3 Wood, 2 Leather

Tip: The Steel Fireaxe is the best all-around manual tool — it chops trees, breaks concrete, and harvests ore with top efficiency. Save the Auger for large-scale mining operations only (it's loud and attracts screamers). Use the Impact Driver for fast vehicle repairs and the Ratchet for quick salvage operations.

Armor

Armor reduces incoming damage and provides buffs to various stats. Higher-tier armor offers more protection but weighs more and costs more stamina. Mix and match pieces for the best balance.

Armor Sets by Tier

Armor Piece Armor Class Protection Durability Crafting
Plant Fiber Clothes Set Light 5% total 50-80 30 Plant Fiber per piece
Scrap Armor Chest Medium 12% 150 10 Scrap Iron, 5 Duct Tape

Steel Armor Legs Heavy 22% 450 25 Forged Steel, 8 Leather
Steel Armor Boots Heavy 18% 350 20 Forged Steel, 5 Leather
Steel Armor Gloves Heavy 14% 300 15 Forged Steel, 5 Leather
Steel Armor Helmet Heavy 20% 350 20 Forged Steel, 5 Leather
Military Armor Chest Heavy 35% 700 Loot only (Tier 6 endgame)
Military Armor Legs Heavy 28% 600 Loot only (Tier 6 endgame)
Military Armor Boots Heavy 22% 500 Loot only (Tier 6 endgame)
Military Armor Gloves Heavy 18% 400 Loot only (Tier 6 endgame)
Military Armor Helmet Heavy 25% 500 Loot only (Tier 6 endgame)

Tip: Mixing armor types is often optimal. For example: Military Chest + Steel Legs + Steel Boots + Iron Helmet gives excellent protection while keeping stamina costs manageable. Full Heavy armor is overkill against normal zombies and slows you down significantly.

Armor Set Bonuses

Full Set Set Bonus
Plant Fiber None (starter only)
Scrap Armor +5% Armor, +10% Disease Resistance
Leather Armor +10% Armor, +20% Cold Resistance
Iron Armor +15% Armor, +25% Puncturing Resistance
Steel Armor +20% Armor, +30% Blast Resistance
Military Armor +25% Armor, +40% All Damage Resistance

Ammo

Use the right ammo for the right job. Stone arrows are for hunting animals. AP rounds are for armored zombies and horde night. Explosive ammo is for crowd control. Always stockpile your primary ammo type well before blood moon.

Ammo Type Damage Crafting Uses
Stone Arrow 10 10 Stone, 1 Feather (makes 5) Primitive Bow, Wooden Bow
Iron Arrow 22 5 Forged Iron, 1 Feather (makes 5) Wooden Bow, Crossbow
Steel Arrow 35 5 Forged Steel, 1 Feather (makes 5) Crossbow (best silent ammo)
9mm Rounds 16 10 Brass, 5 Gunpowder (makes 15) Pistol, SMG-5, SMG Turret
7.62mm Rounds 25 10 Brass, 8 Gunpowder (makes 10) AK-47, Tactical AR, M60, Sniper, Hunting Rifle
.44 Magnum Rounds 45 10 Brass, 10 Gunpowder (makes 5) .44 Magnum Revolver, Desert Vulture
Shotgun Shells 18 (x8 pellets) 5 Brass, 5 Gunpowder (makes 4) Pipe Shotgun, Double Barrel, Auto Shotgun
10mm Rounds 20 10 Brass, 6 Gunpowder (makes 10) SMG Turret, some endgame pistols
Rocket 100 (AoE) 10 Forged Steel, 10 Gunpowder (makes 1) Rocket Launcher
9mm AP Rounds 22 (+40% armor pen) 9mm + 2 Steel (makes 15) Anti-armor, horde night
7.62mm AP Rounds 34 (+40% armor pen) 7.62mm + 2 Steel (makes 10) Anti-armor, horde night
Shotgun AP Slugs 35 (single target) Shells + 2 Steel (makes 4) Long-range shotgun, anti-armor
HE Rocket 150 (AoE) Rocket + 5 Explosive Powder Demolition, crowd clearing

Tip: Always use AP ammo on horde night once you have a reliable gun. The armor penetration bonus stacks with perk bonuses and makes short work of ferals, irradiated, and demolition zombies. For everyday looting and hunting, standard ammo is more resource-efficient.

Traps & Utility

Traps turn a good base into an impenetrable fortress. Deploy them in layers for maximum effectiveness. Remember: a powered trap is a working trap — always have backup fuel and batteries.

Trap Damage Power Range Effect Crafting
Wood Spike 5/tick None Melee Bleeding, slow 20 Wood (makes 5)
Iron Spike 15/tick None Melee Bleeding, slow, cripple 10 Forged Iron (makes 5)
Barbed Wire 5/tick None Melee Slow (-50% speed) 10 Iron, 5 Duct Tape (makes 10)
Electric Fence 10 6W (3 blocks) 10m Stun (3s), damage 5 Mechanical Parts, 3 Electrical Parts
Blade Trap 15/tick 8W Melee Continuous damage 10 Mechanical Parts, 5 Forged Steel
Dart Trap 25 5W 15m Bleeding, piercing 8 Mechanical Parts, 5 Forged Iron
Shotgun Turret 22 (x9) 10W 20m Burst damage (8 shells) 15 Mechanical Parts, 10 Forged Steel
SMG Turret 14/shot 8W 25m Sustained fire 12 Mechanical Parts, 8 Forged Steel
Rocket Turret 100 (AoE) 15W 30m Explosive, AoE 20 Mechanical Parts, 15 Forged Steel
Junk Turret 10/tick Battery 15m Automated fire 5 Mechanical Parts, 3 Electrical Parts
Vault Door N/A None N/A 50,000 HP barrier 30 Forged Steel, 10 Mechanical Parts
Reinforced Hatch N/A None N/A 15,000 HP barrier 20 Forged Steel, 5 Mechanical Parts

Tip: Blade Traps + Electric Fence is the most efficient damage combo for any kill corridor. Use Dart Traps on elevated positions to pick off zombies before they reach your wall. Turrets should be saved for horde night only — they burn through ammo fast.

Weapon Mods

Mods dramatically improve weapon and tool performance. Slot-in upgrades can be found in loot or crafted at a workbench. Each weapon has a fixed number of mod slots based on its tier.

Mod Effect Weapon Type Crafting
Reflex Sight +10% hip-fire accuracy Ranged (rifles, SMGs) Loot only
Red Dot Sight +15% ADS accuracy, +5% damage Ranged (pistol, AR) 3 Mechanical Parts, 2 Electrical Parts

Cooling Pad -30% heat generation Armor (chest) 3 Mechanical Parts, 2 Plastic
Bandolier +20% ammo capacity Armor (chest) 5 Leather, 3 Duct Tape
Bunker Buster +20% block damage Tools (pickaxe, auger) 5 Forged Steel, 3 Mechanical Parts
Ergonomic Grip -25% stamina cost Melee (all) 3 Leather, 2 Wood
Weighted Head +15% damage, +10% stamina cost Melee (sledge, club) 5 Forged Steel, 3 Duct Tape
Serrated Blade +33% bleeding chance Melee (knives, machete) 5 Forged Iron, 3 Leather
Tempered Blade +20% damage, +25% durability Tools (axe, fireaxe) 5 Forged Steel, 3 Mechanical Parts
Hunter's Mod +50% animal harvest yield Melee (knives) 5 Leather, 3 Bones

Tip: Prioritize mods that offset a weapon's weakness. For the SMG-5, an Extended Magazine turns it into a horde-clearing beast. For the Sniper Rifle, a Scope + Silencer makes it the ultimate stealth weapon. Ergonomic Grip is a must on any melee weapon you use regularly.
